Limitations of existing small scale Transcription Vendors

The existing small scale Transcription vendor or Service providers most of the time have some prevalent limitations, that prevents them to offer the most Competitive and Quality service that is being available to other clients. For example the starters and small time players may not have ventured into a Transcription Management software or a Web based Report Storage and Retrieval system or a HL7 integrated Demography and reports transfer system. The lack of such technologically advanced applications deprives the end users and the physicians of some key technology features like "Monitoring the flow of Dictation" form origination thro different levels of transcription, "Search and retrieve old reports", "Auto Fax a report" from Web directly or do an "Analysis on the practice or physicians or referrals". These limitations of the service provider had to be overcome using excellent client relationship skills, or could end up losing the battle to an advanced competitor.

These limitations exist because of the size of the operation of our target segment. With about 10 to 20 clients under their belt, it is often seen unviable to invest on the information technology requirements that could serve their clients better. So they have to increase the number of clients they are serving to.

There is another limitation that is preventing them to do so by way of Manpower availability. Survey reports say that the quantity of Transcriptions to be done in Healthcare sector is increasing but the number of persons taking "Medical Transcription" as a profession are decreasing constantly. So this deficiency in the availability of quality labor ends up increasing the turn-around-time of the reports. Instead of effectively turning around the reports in 24-48 hours the partner ends up having a huge heap of work lying around for days. This results in Hospital staff calling the Transcription provider for reports and the provider changes the priority and ends up in chaos.

So seeing this deficiency in labor and mounting backlogs large Transcription Companies and Hospitals turned towards Speech recognition as an alternate but without much success.
